San Diego Weekend

For the last 32 years we've traveled the highways from Phoenix to San Diego.  Our car knows the way....we could do it with our eyes closed.  So many things have changed along the way, but so many things have stayed the same.
When we were invited to a destination wedding in San Diego, we were so excited to combine this happy occasion with visiting with family that live there.

One of the things I had planned for the weekend was a visit up to Temecula where their outdoor hung Quilt Show was planned for Saturday.  You can't visit Temecula without a visit to one of the local wineries.  Unfortunately unexpected circumstances derailed these plans.........too bad since adding some quilts and wine to this weekend would have just added a cherry on top to a pretty wonderful weekend.

I've never attended a wedding that was held on the beach, so the wedding of Vanessa and Jeremy was really neat.  The weather was perfect, the food divine, and the company of friends fantastic.  I've decided that I truly enjoy weddings.  Seeing two young people who are so in love just seem to reinforce my belief that love is the most important there is.

After the party was over we took a walk on the beach to witness the

"Red Tide" effect. 

Awesome, amazing and not to be missed if you are near the beach.

Waves lighting up with a floresent blue light is a

sight to behold!

Mom and I got to spend a fun day together visiting Seaport Village and discovering a new part of the city that she has lived in for almost 40 years.
Littly Italy is a quaint part of downtown San Diego that has almost a small town main street feeling.  It is filled with the wonderful aromas of Italian food cooking, and people enjoying that food sitting in little outside cafes with their dogs at their feet.

While we had a wonderful weekend away

we really miss those we leave behind.

We are lucky to have the ability to Skype

with our sweet girl! (s)

The Pox

I am trying really hard to get motivated to work today.

It is almost 2:30pm and I have not accomplished much so far.

The morning started at 6:30am

with a vigorous hike on the mountain,

a stop at Jenny and Rafael's house to let in the tile man,

then back home to work/water my garden.

So I am puttering around in the garden when I hear......

"mom? are you out there?"

It was Rafael. His boss had sent him home from work strongly suggesting that he go to Urgent Care to have those suspicious spots on his arms checked out.

The spots had shown up yesterday, but I advised him to just sleep on it and see what happened.

Well, today they really started looking like Chicken Pox.

Sure enough, when we went to urgent care,

that's what the doc confirmed.

I'm keeping my hopes up that all I have heard

about chicken pox as an adult

are not true!

We had an extrememly busy weekend filled with

new house stuff, quilting stuff,

attending a wedding of a dear friend,

celebrating the birthday of a dear friend,

and

celebrating the birthday of my dear son!

who somehow turned 25 this year.

I sure don't know how this can be

when I am only a couple of

years older than that!

Technology is a wonderful thing! There is always something new to learn.
Blogging seems to be the new thing............and podcasting!

I started my blog last December and promptly forgot about it.

About a month ago I decided that it was time to give it a try again.

Do you think I could remember how I got started? Or my user name

or my password?

So this is my Tip for the Day..............

When you make a new account on the internet,

whether it be a webshot account or a blog or perhaps

one for healthcare or even the public library............

Write it down somewhere! And keep them all together

in one place. You could use your daytimer or you could

even keep a file folder on your computer with all the

important imformation.

Quilting.............I just love it! Don't you? There never seems to be enough time in the day!

I am working on the binding for a quilt for my daughter and future son-in-law. I pieced this quilt when I was on vacation at Mammoth Lakes California last summer. This photo shows the unquilted, on the design wall version, but now the quilting is done and the hand sewing of the binding has begun! Isn't it wonderful? I just love illusion quilts and I love black and white fabric! This pattern is Makaii Baker's book. There are alot of really neat patterns in the book. I'll post the complete information the next time I write.

I've been working on making "green" shopping bags. I received one for Christmas from my quilting buddy Mary. I made one myself a couple of weeks ago and I must admit that I am hooked on them! They are a really great way to use up that fabric that you have stored away. I cut into a georgous piece of Australian fabric to make one yesterday. You know the fabric........the one that you will never ever be able to buy again so you are saving it for something really special. I know you have some of those! We all do! But I've decided that if I make this into a bag that I USE, then I'll be able to see it and love it on a daily basis instead of it being hidden away in the stash!

On a personal note I must tell you that we are celebrating the "Year of the Wedding" at our house. My daughter is getting married on Nov. 15, 2008 and we are always doing "something" for the wedding. Tonight I spent some time composing an email which I sent to most of my address book. Jenny found a contest to win a Disney honeymoon. She and her fiance, Rafael filmed a video and submitted it. They were picked for the finals! Now the video is online and is competing with 2 other videos to win this vacation. It includes a night in Cinderella's Castle!
