Friday Night Quilters

Last night I enjoyed a very nice evening filled with
good friends, good food, and really good quilts!

Here are some pictures of my talented friends
and some of the projects they have been working on.

Joanne with a couple of Alzheimers quilts that
are ready to be sent in to be auctioned
to raise money for Alzheimer's.

Mary's quilt
This is the quilt that we made for
Linda after her bed-bug experience at quilt camp.
It is hanging on her wall.

Katrina's out of this world quilt.
It has another name, but I can't seem to remember what it is!
Cheryl recently returned from a trip to Bali!
While there she made this batik panel.
She drew the design on paper, then drew it with wax before
she applied the paint colors to this piece.

She also made the jewerly she is wearing while in Bali.
Sharon has been busy finishing Quilts!

Sharon again.
I think Mary might have gotten the prize for the most finished tops.

Mary was given a patchwork dog like this when her twin girls were born, so she decided to duplicate it!
More from Mary.

I didn't have anything to show last night so I have decided to spend the afternoon doing some sewing!!!!

til next time,
Happy Quilting!

Lots of things going on..........

The last couple of days have been busy ones
filled with family and friends and QUILTING!
This past week I finished up a couple of quilts.
This one belongs to Liz............
This is a close-up of a corner of Liz's quilt.
She chose a bear from Anne Bright's quilting patterns.

And a moose for another corner.
This next quilt belongs to Deb.

Close-up of one of the side setting triangles.
The inspiration this design came from
Kim Stotsenburg's "Just Leaf it" quilt design book.

The January meeting of the Friday Night Quilters
was held at my house last night and it was a fun-filled evening
starting with making pizza.
Here are Kathy and Katrina getting started.

We had some beautiful show and tell last night.
This quilt, made with Kaffe Fasset fabrics, belongs
to Katrina. It was a real beauty!

Cheryl is displaying a quilt made by Dolly's
11 year old daughter Kelly. Kelly designed, pieced,
and quilted this little quilt to donate to Ami Simm's
Alzhimers Art Quilt Initiative. This little ladybug quilt raised
$100 for this cause. The person who bought the quilt
requested that it be sent back to the maker since it was
her very first quilt. What a sweet story!

After Show and tell we all went downstairs to
make a little project.

So that was Friday night...........Saturday morning
Mike and I went on a little 4 mile hike in preparation
for the 15 mile hike he has signed us up for in 2 weeks.
Yikes! I'm a little worried about doing this!
After the hike we pushed back most of the furniture
in the living room and moved a bunch of it out to the
back porch for a little Family Jazzercise!
My daughter-in-law Jen is working really hard to become an
instructor and needed some students to practice on.
WELL! She got some pretty challenging students and
she did really awesome. I think she'll make a great instructor!

Our neighbors Bert and Gail started a holiday
tradition several years ago. We call it
"Bert bombs the Neighborhood"
He makes us a B52 Bomber.
They are pretty yummy!

Bert.....the Master Mixologist!
See the 3 layers?

Bert and Gail........cheers!

Happy New Year from Mike, Brian, Rafael & Tammy!

Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI)

I received an email today from my friend Dolly telling me that the new auction has started for Ami Simms Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.

What is special (to me) about this particular auction is that Dolly's 11 year old daughter Kelly AND her mom Joanne
both have quilts that they have donated included in this auction.
This is Kelly's LadyBug quilt.
This is Joanne's Patchwork of Life quilt.
and click on the pictures of the quilts you will get to read the artist's statements
and on Kelly's......see her picture! She is the youngest quilter ever to donate a quilt!
I was fortunate enough to get to see Joanne's quilt up close and personal.
What is amazing about her quilt is that all of those tiny, little bitty, miniscule triangles
are all PIECED! This is not a printed piece of fabric you are looking at here folks!
I just hope that their gifts of love will bring lots of bidders and $$$ for this cause.
Kelly's grandpa recently passed away after suffering many years with
Alzheimer's disease.
What a lovely tribute Kelly and Joanne have offered him.
